Thanks to a tip from Scott Gable I went to the University Bookstore to hear Joe Abercrombie read and answer questions tonight. This guy's amazing: a really good reader, a clever and engaging speaker, and if I could write characters half as well I'd be a happy woman. If you don't read Abercrombie, you should. If you do, pick up his latest.
(As an aside, to hear a writer I admire, who has already written seven damned good books, say that writing doesn't pay enough to be a full-time job makes me very angry. Support good writers, dammit!)
