There are a few good things to be said for boring jobs: paid vacation, a reliable monthly budget, and medical insurance, for starters. If you can slog through the crappy, pays-the-bills job and work on your latest piece, or manage your submissions spreadsheet, in between, isn't it worth the 9 - 5 grind?
That said, of course, a full-time job that isn't boring would be even better. But for myself, I've found that if I have a creative job, I'm less likely to push myself to be creative on my own work in my off hours. It's the soul-killers, the life-sucking pay-the-bills grinds that produce the best creative output. Don't you think?
